About the Project
MonteFI (Monte Financial Independence) is a web-based application designed to help visualizing housing and personal finance trends. Visualize trends across the United States with an interactive map and interactive plots.
Data Sources
All demographic and financial data is sourced directly from the US Census Bureau. Specifically, we utilize the American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates to ensure comprehensive state-level coverage.
Range: 2009 - 2023
Data Processing
Raw census data is programmatically fetched via US Census API. An automated pipeline processes this information to:
- Calculate various statistics.
- Compute ratios (i.e. Income vs. Rent).
- Format time-series data for web performance.
The Visualization
The interactive map provides a powerful way to explore economic shifts over the last 15 years.
- Choropleth Map: States are color-coded based on a scaled heat map.
- Time Travel: Use the built-in slider to watch how the economic landscape has changed year over year.
- Deep Dive: Switch between different metrics like "Average Rent" or "Home Value" to isolate specific trends.
